Accessing services
People with cancer or another life-limiting illness may be referred to the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh for a variety of services.
Referral to the hospice is usually arranged by the patient’s GP or hospital doctor based on medical, social or emotional need.
Access to the Marie Curie Nursing service is usually arranged by the patient’s District Nurse.
The Marie Curie Nursing Service
Marie Curie Nurses provide high quality care, totally free, to give people with cancer the choice of dying at home supported by their families.
Marie Curie Nurses work through the night or during the day to provide one-on-one care for the patient and provide practical and emotional support for families at what can be an exhausting time.
The District Nurse is the person who arranges Marie Curie Nursing, and will decide on what hours of care are most appropriate, in consultation with the patient and their family.
Access to the service must be through the patient’s District Nurse or GP.
